The hiring pace slowed for the fourth month in a row.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced Tuesday that job openings rose in July as employers become less eager to fill positions in a slowing economy. The number of jobs being filled, as well as the number of workers leaving their jobs, decreased in July. Available positions increased in the manufacturing, transportation, entertainment, recreation, and government sectors.
Demand for workers has remained well above the number of total available workers in a tight labor market that is beginning to show signs of slight loosening. Employers added 528,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, down from 3.6 percent in June.
